Health Benefits of Tulsi: The Indian herb that cures colds in winters, can keep you cool in summers

Whenever I get even the slightest cough during winter, my mom always makes her trusted, traditional tulsi kadha for me. Well, be it as kadha or tea, we all know how beneficial Tulsi can be when treating colds or even boosting immunity during winter. But recently, I found out how amazing Tulsi can be in summer as well.

I recently suffered a bad heatstroke, and a friend told me to drink tulsi-infused water regularly. Intrigued by this, I did some digging of my own and realized the limitless power of our most revered Herb, Holy Basil.

Tulsi can keep you cool, calm, healthy, and glowing too, during scorching summer months. If you are still wondering how, let’s tell you.

Natural Cooling Properties to help fight Heat & Stress:

Natural cooling properties found in Tulsi, especially Rama Tulsi or Bright Tulsi, make it best to help regulate your body temperature and provide relief from heat-related discomfort. You can either consume washed Tulsi leaves or make a Tulsi-infused drink and sip on it regularly. Here’s another way you can get the best out of Tulsi’s cooling properties, it can help to soothe itchy eyes.

What’s more? This ancient Ayurvedic Herb also helps ease stress, calm the mind, reduce anxiety and promote relaxation.

Helps fight Viral infections & keeps Immunity Up:

With summer, also come seasonal illnesses like heatstroke and viral infections. Tulsi has properties that can change the immunity system (known as immunomodulatory properties). This makes the Herb a potent ally in strengthening the body’s defenses against such ailments. Rich in antioxidants and essential oils, Tulsi helps your immune system by protecting against infections and promoting overall well-being during the challenging summer months.

Aid for Summer Indigestion:

Stomach problems, such as bloating, acidity, and indigestion, are common during summer. This can worsen if you eat oily or spicy foods or have irregular eating habits. But then again, that’s how our desi diets are, right? Tulsi leaves are loaded with antioxidants that can help in digestion and also flush out the toxins from the body. Drinking Tulsi tea or Tulsi water early in the morning has many benefits for your body.

Save your skin from the harsh sun:

Sunburn and premature aging are scary side-effects of the harsh summer sun. While you cannot truly prevent stepping out, Tulsi can become your skin’s kavach and trusted aide. The herb’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties make it an amazing addition to your skincare routine in summer. Using basil-infused products or Tulsi face packs can help soothe sunburn and rejuvenate the skin, giving your skin a healthy radiant glow during summers.

We have told you how beneficial Tulsi can be, let’s also tell you how you can add it to your summer routine:

  • Tulsi water: Add ½ cups of washed and chopped Tulsi leaves to 2 cups of hot water and mix well. Cover and set aside for at least 15 minutes. After that, strain the water into a glass or water bottle and keep sipping on it.
  • Tulsi Tea: Put some water on a high flame, and once it is boiling, add some Tulsi leaves. You can also add some cardamom or ginger to it. Add some Honey or lemon juice at the end.
  • Tulsi Face Pack – One of the simplest Tulsi Face Packs can be mixing some Tulsi powder or crushed leaves with some raw honey. Apply it on a cleansed face and leave it for 12-15 minutes. After that, rinse it off with some lukewarm water and apply some moisturizer.
