The word “Diwali” comes from a Sanskrit word “Deepavali,” which means “a row of lights.” Diwali is always celebrated on Amavasya of Kartik Month. And, this year it is falling on the 1st of November. Maa Laxmi and Ganesha are worshiped with great dedication and devotion on this auspicious day.
Diwali, we all know, is celebrated mainly to mark the victory of good over evil and positivity over negativity. People light lamps & fancy lights, decorate their homes, distribute sweets, wear new clothes, dance, party and celebrate. The happiness of this day is a different kind of feeling for Indians. So, to make this Diwali more cheerful and auspicious I’m now sharing a few important Do’s and Don’ts for your home as per Vastu Shastra.
Vastu Do’s for Diwali
Here are some things you must do during Diwali to get the best out of this auspicious time:
1. Which color to choose for White Wash:
If you are planning to get your Sweet Home white washed make sure you use neutral shades like off-white, beige or cream. These colors balance the house energies and give peaceful vibes. Avoid using black and red colors as these colors have high intensity and are not beneficial for residential Vastu.
2. If you aren’t planning to get the Whitewash done:
Sometimes it isn’t possible to get the paint work done every Diwali which is also absolutely okay. In this case you must remove cobwebs, discard old material which is not in use for more than six months and change a little setting of the furniture. Making these changes at home also changes the vibes of your residence.
3. Proper Placement of your Mandir and deities for Pooja:
Generally the best placement of the mandir is in the North East and East of North East. If by chance your temple is not in any of these two directions you can face the North East side while performing the Diwali pooja. It will give you peace of mind and concentration. If it is possible you may keep a temporary platform for this day’s poojan in any of these two auspicious zones. Never keep your temple in the North direction.
4. Which Toran to put at the Entrance:
The entrance of a house is the most important zone as per Vastu Shastra, it should always be kept clean. It is also important to decorate it on the occasion of Diwali. The toran which is considered as the most auspicious is the Ashoka leaves toran. Put Shubh Laabh or Happy Diwali with it. One thing to keep in mind is that you must remove the toran before drying.
5. Where to make Swastik:
Swastik energizes the entrance and it is beneficial to make it on both the sides of the entrance door with Yellow Chandan. Kindly check the correct method to make Swastik before making.
6. What designs to choose for Rangoli:
Always make rangolis on Diwali, as it is an auspicious way to invite happiness to your home. It is also an ancient method to give respect to our Mother Earth. Some patterns for rangoli which invites prosperity and you must include them while making are – Traditional Mandala, floral patterns, peacock designs and Laxmi footprints.
Use bright colors as they would give a vibrant touch to your home and floor on Diwali. If you are planning to use flowers then go ahead, but make sure that you remove the dried flowers within two days as they may get dried soon in this weather. So, decorate your home with beautiful and colorful rangolis and be creative!
7. Vastu Poojan:
Vastu Poojan plays an important role in Vastu Shastra and this is one of the most auspicious days to perform it. So, perform Vastu Hawan on diwali to invite happiness and prosperity to our homes. You may get it done through a pandit.
Vastu Don’ts for Diwali
Here are some things you should not do or avoid during Diwali:
1. Clothes you must avoid: Prosperity gets attracted to you when you keep yourself groomed regularly. Avoid wearing clothes which are older than a year. Do not wear black clothes and go out on this day as it may attract negative energies.
2. Environment at home: Avoid arguments and fights with anybody on this day specially. Disturbed Energies at home attract negative patterns, so better to avoid any kind of arguments. Stay positive and make others happy.
3. Don’t use stickers with God’s name on the floor: Refrain pasting stickers with God’s names, Om or Swastik on the floors. By doing so, we can avoid the disrespect of these pictures and symbols through our dirty shoes and feet’s touch.
4. What not to eat on this day: I have seen many people taking non veg and alcoholic drinks after Diwali poojan. One should always avoid eating non-veg and taking alcohol whenever there is any kind of Pooja being performed at home and not only Diwali!
Last but not the least, always keep your home environment peaceful and happy on this day. The more happy and contented you are on this day the more good vibes and blessings you would attract. Also, Diwali is the best day to perform charity. You can donate anything like food items, clothes etc. or the things which are not in use for more than six months. Help the needy and get blessings, as you may never know which one made you so successful. Have a Blessed, Happy and Safe Diwali.
