So, let’s talk about a major wardrobe shakeup!

We all know the LBD, aka the Little Black Dress, has been our go-to for ages. It’s timeless, versatile, and oh-so-chic. But guess what? There’s a new trend in town…

Enter the Little White Dress (LWD)!

We saw that the New York Fashion Week welcomed the little white dress for the Spring Summer 2024 collection with open arms. So, it’s time to do some wardrobe shakeup and to skip that LBD for a LWD! If you are confused about what kind of white dress to select for yourself for yourself, and how to style it? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.

Let’s visit a few pointers to keep in mind while choosing and styling a perfect Little White Dress for yourself!

How to Choose a Little White Dress?

#1. Color

I know that first thought… “But white doesn’t suit me!!”

Do you feel and think in a similar way? Remember each one of us can carry all colors, it is just important to understand which variant of the color suits us best. It is a lot to do with your undertone (Warm/ Cool or Neutral).

To check your undertone, take a white and cream color cloth.

  • Warm- Warm is yellow based. If a cream suits you better than white, you are a warm undertone.
  • Cool- Cool is blue based. If a white color looks great on you, you are cool undertone.
  • Neutral- You may have a neutral undertone if you flow between the warm and cool season.

This would help you decide what shade and tone of white to choose that compliments your skin.

#2. Silhouette

Everybody is uniquely beautiful and in order to reach our perfect dress, we need to choose a silhouette that flatters us the most.

For that, we analyze the body shape first. There are five universally accepted body shapes: You could be one or a combination of two.

Body Types women Little white dress - sipping thoughts blog

  • Triangle- Hips are the broadest part.
  • Inverted Triangle- Shoulders are the broadest part.
  • Rectangle- The body is a straight line.
  • Round- Stomach is the broadest part.
  • Hourglass- Waist is the smallest part.

For example: If you are a triangle body shape, in order to get the perfect proportions in the body, we can add some additional weight on the shoulders. Hence a dress with shoulder paddings in blazers or puffed sleeves will work really well.

If you are a rectangle body shape, it is advised to add curves to your body. One way to do that is to highlight your natural waistline. Hence, adding a belt on the waist will really enhance the body proportions.

My suggestion to you would be to highlight your favorite features. If you love your legs, go for shorter hemlines. If you have great arms, choose sleeveless styles. Highlighting your favorite features always boosts confidence.

Additionally, don’t fear experimenting with layers! It can add depth and interest to your outfit. A well-chosen jacket, cardigan, or belt can transform your look.

#3. Choice of Fabric

Different fabrics in white can convey different messages. A white cotton dress feels casual and fresh, a white silk blouse exudes sophistication, and while a white leather dress can help you achieve a chic look.

Additionally, white can be tricky to keep spotless. Be mindful of where you wear it and always have a stain remover handy to maintain that crisp, clean look.

How to Style your Little White Dress?

Now that we understand how to select the perfect dress for ourselves, here are my top 3 tips to style them best.

#1. Accessorize

Want to know the best part about white garments? They look rocking with all metallics, pearls and more!

If you are team minimal, pair your LWD with minimal jewelry, like sleek chains, rings, or earrings, and nude heels for an effortlessly chic look. Sometimes, less is more. So, let the dress do the talking.

But, if you love making a statement, add some bold accessories. Think chunky neckpiece, oversized sunglasses, or a bright handbag. This adds a pop of color and personality to your outfit.

#2. Layer It Up

Whether in summers or winters, layering is a good styling trick. Don’t be afraid to mix textures and styles.

Especially during those chilly months, a leather jacket or a cozy cardigan can add depth and dimension to your look.

Your dress might be white, but your makeup doesn’t have to be! Try bold lip colors or dramatic eye makeup to add some flair.
